Throughout my career many people have asked me how I am able to sustain the rigors of the tennis-teaching
profession. I am fortunate that through education, regular health maintenance, diet, and exercise I continue to
experience the wellness that has produced the longevity and consistency in my professional life. As part of my
weekly health maintenance program, or occasionally, when things do break down, I'm fortunate to be able to call
upon several excellent practitioners of alternative medicine. Here are my favorites:

Chiropractic:
I visit with Dr. Sean once a week to keep all my body parts properly aligned. He is great!
Chiropractic is the only profession that maximizes your body's natural healing ability by
removing interference to the nervous system. Chiropractic is 100% non-drug and
non-surgical.  Dr. Sean is a graduate of Los Angeles College of Chiropractic and is state
board and national board certified. He has studied and practices all methods of
chiropractic, and specializes in pediatrics and pregnancy, as well as sports, auto, and
work-related injuries. He is located at
25401 Cabot Road, Suite 112, Laguna Hills, and

Acupuncture:
It would be an understatement to say that Dr. Lee is a 'godsend!' Firstly, he was recommend-
ed to me, fifteen years ago, by my family doctor (and it's rare that a traditional doctor will
recommend an acupuncturist!) Besides the terrific work he does maintaining the health of my
knees, shoulders, and lower back (as needed) and his treatment of arthritis, he is a consider-
ed a miracle-worker by the thousands of women that he has helped with infertility, and their
resultant pregnancy. He is a third-generation acupuncturist, born in China, with a Doctorate
in Oriental Medicine and a Ph.D in Oriental Medicine Philosophy. His practice is located at
16520 Bake Parkway, Unit 145, Irvine (cross-streets: Irvine Center Drive/Bake Pkwy) and
he can be reached at
(949) 336-8700. To visit his website, Click Here...

Physical Therapy:
I have been a patient of Mark's on and off for the last thirteen years, and have recommend-
ed many students over the years. Having established his business over 17 years ago, he has
become known by amateur and professional athletes alike as a genius for his treatment of
seemingly career-ending injuries through his practice of manual therapy along with state of
the art lasers and other modalities. His clinic focuses on proper muscle balance prior to initiat-
ing strengthening thereby promoting faster healing of the injury. As a former professional
athlete himself, he is an expert in arm, shoulder, back and leg injuries, as well as providing
advanced training with QuickTwitch equipment.

Massage Therapy:
Over my entire career, I have utilized massage therapy on a weekly basis for muscle
relaxation and injury prevention. Mark's wife,
Valinda Roche, is a former professional beach
volleyball player and fully licensed and trained massage therapist who has worked on me
continuously for the last 5 years. In addition to her imposing height and physical strength,
Valinda's ten-year experience as an assistant physical therapist also enables her to
incorporate many of the manual therapy techniques used by Natural Health to treat injuries,
but her healing hands assure complete muscle relaxation and rehabilitation. She is also
available for personal training. Appointments for sports massage with Valinda can be made
by contacting
Natural Health Sports Therapy by phone at (949) 645-4086, or to visit

Tennis Optimization:
The Tennis Optimization Program, as developed by Dr. Jake Caldwell, is a tennis-specific
program of manual physical therapy interventions designed to enhance and optimize a tennis
player’s ability to use his or her body at its highest level. It is for healthy tennis players, look-
ing for an edge. It makes use of Functional Mobilization, a system of advanced physical
therapy techniques using Kettlebells, one of the most heralded tools for strength training and
conditioning. Dr. Jake, whom I've worked with personally, is a Physical Therapist, strength and
conditioning specialist, and personal trainer. He earned three Bachelor degrees at UCSD and
his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Chapman University.
